Campaing: Stop the San Jose del Tambo hydroelectric project in Ecuador

The people of San Jose del Tambo, Ecuador have been fighting for nine years to stop a major hydroelectric project. Hidrotambo S.A. was granted a concession to over 90% of the waters of the Dulcepamba River and its tributaries for 50 years or for the duration of the useful life of the planned 8-megawatt hydroelectric project.

Brazil: The House votes on a Draft Law to create mechanisms for the prevention of torture

Conectas expects that the text of the Draft Law 2.442,/2011 creating the Mechanism for the Prevention of Torture in Brazil will be adopted with the required amendments so as to guarantee the independence of experts. It also hopes that changes will not be incorporated, which might transform the document in an innocuous mechanism, as those compelling experts to provide previous information announcing the visit to one State.

The Campaign I Do Not Want Transgenic in Chile adheres itself to the call for April 22, the national demonstration for water recovery. The collectives, organizations and participating people in the Campaign I Do Not Want Transgenic are all aware that our final aim is “Food Sovereignty” and Good Living. Food sovereignty requires peasants, seeds and also water available for the common good. Our struggle against transgenic and against the pesticides which are always used on this type of crops is part and parcel of the struggle for a new agricultural, economic and political model. Our struggle is against transgenic and against pesticides and for the recovery of ancestral seeds and the old practices of the people.
