The ways in which corporations use the Global Investment Guidelines to place in risk our sustainable future

Tuesday 11 June 2013

As describe don this report by Thomas Mc Donagh, one of the fundamental world challenges we are facing in this century is how to do two things at the same time in simultaneous order: one is making possible for thousands of millions of people in the world to raise from the sufferings imposed by poverty, and the other thing is to avoid pushing the planet to a cliff that will lead to dangerous and irreversible environmental changes. Under no circumstance whatsoever, it would be difficult to do both things, but there is also a set of powerful forces under operation allowing for what is difficult and urgent almost impossible. These forces are the mighty international corporations that seem to be programmed to act under an automatic pilot along a path causing damages to our environment.

A dangerous world

Monday 10 June 2013

The world is turning everyday into a very dangerous thing for refugee and migrant people. This is the conclusion to which Amnesty International has reached on its report on the status of human rights in the planet. Poverty, conflicts, natural disasters… are compelling million of people to abandon their homes to strive for their lives and that of their family. Vulnerable people do not find an extended hand to help them, but rather a world rejecting them and relegating them to a life in shadow.

The President of Bolivia greets the Sixth Conference of La Vía Campesina

Monday 10 June 2013

While congratulating all comrades forming part of La Vía Campesina I would also like to express my thanks for the unconditional support provided to our social movements during these two decades of hard work. Equally I would like to express that our commitment and our militancy with the mandates and the philosophy of La Vía Campesina are stronger than ever before. All along these years in government we have done no other things than preserving, broadening, strengthening and implementing them as advised by a proper political awareness.
